Vicksburg lady Bulldogs’ volleyball team took the Eastern Division of the Wolverine Conference championship. This earned the team a No. 1 ranking going into the Wolverine Conference tournament on November 2.
Vicksburg finished the Eastern Division undefeated. Adding to their previous victories over Edwardsburg and South Haven, the Bulldogs defeated Comstock and Paw Paw in three straight matches. They took the Plainwell Trojans in five, and finished the season with victories over Otsego and Allegan, both in three straight. Their final win against Allegan was highlighted by Senior Night, where the team’s four seniors were honored.
In the Conference tournament held at Three Rivers High School, Vicksburg came out strong beating South Haven and Dowagiac, putting them in the semi-finals against Edwardsburg where they handed the Eddies a loss. In the final match against Three Rivers, the Western Division champions, they split the first four matches and ended up in a very close fifth and final match, but suffered a close and disappointing 15-13 loss, giving Three Rivers the Conference championship for the second year in a row.
Coach Miller emphasized that, although they have players that may be stronger than others, it has been through the efforts of each of the team members that their success has been achieved. She feels that each of the girls should be recognized for their ability to work well together and demonstrate dedication to the team as a whole.
