Americans love their public libraries even more than they love baseball and apple pie, according to a recent Pew study. This winter, there’s a lot to love at the Vicksburg District Library. Whether you enjoy snuggling in with a good book, feel passionate about movies and theater, or cherish listening to stories with your children, there’s a program for you.
For readers fond of discovering new stories and characters to fall in love with, the Library will offer a “Blind Date with a Book” throughout the month of February. Library staff will choose literary treasures to wrap up, and patrons can choose a blind date book to take home, unwrap, and discover a new love. If you’re wary of blind dates, librarians are always available and eager to set you up with book recommendations based on your previous likes.
The library’s Adult Winter Reading Program encourages patrons to explore their affection for all forms of media offered, including books, ebooks, audiobooks, and movies. The program, called “The Play’s The Thing”, runs until March 31. Adults who sign up and read or view ten items will win a Vicksburg District Library lunch cooler. For every five items after that participants receive an entry into the Grand Prize drawing. Take note theater lovers, this year’s Grand Prize is two tickets to see “Boeing, Boeing” and “Annie Get Your Gun” at the Kalamazoo Civic Theater. The drawing will be April 1.
The library is also happy to note that Miss Kristy restarted the much-loved Story Times. Story Times are divided into three age groups: Toddler Time (18-36 months) on Mondays at 10:15, Baby Story Time (birth to 18 months) on Wednesdays at 9:30, and Preschool Story Time (3-5 years) on Wednesdays at 10:30. Story Times are full of singing, storytelling, and activities that children and adults enjoy. They will run through April, although there will be no Story Times the week of February 17-21. The library will also be closed Wednesday, February 19th that week, for an attractive new look and some fresh paint.
There’s a lot going on at the Vicksburg District Library over the next few months. Come in for some literary match-making, a chance for a night at the theatre, or with the family to enjoy a story time. They love to see you.
