Three Rivers Home Depot Supports the “Leader in Me” in Schoolcraft

This year, the Schoolcraft Elementary Schools became one of the Stephen Covey Leader In Me schools. This means they teach students to be leaders in their community by using “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids,” the children’s version of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”

Staff members have been making small improvements to the buildings to reflect the focus on leadership. Teachers have created this focus in their classroom environments, but needed to continue the projects into the rest of the buildings.

The next goal was painting murals in both the gymnasium and cafeteria, where the kids spend a lot of their time, said Amie McCaw, principal.

So, they called on Home Depot in Three Rivers which donated 10 gallons of paint for the cause, she said,

“With all the donated paint, we were able to paint inspirational quotes in the hallways, paint pictures in the boys and girls bathrooms, and create ‘The 7 Habits Tree’ that welcomes families in our entryway,” McCaw said. “We are so grateful for their generosity and wanted to spread the word to our local families. With the Home Depot’s help, we will be ready for our Leadership Day Event on May 16. This is a day for schools across the state and local organizations to come and learn about our journey.”
