Rachel Freeman, circulation supervisor at the Vicksburg Library, who is retiring after 18 1/2 years on the job, will be honored at a reception at the library on Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

“I’m looking forward to retiring so I’ll have more time to read,” she said of retirement.

Freeman, who was raised in Mississippi and came to Vicksburg as a young mother of three, joined the library staff in March, 1996.

During her time at the library, she led a knitting group called The Knit Wits, who meet at the library the third Thursday of every month as well as an adult book club that meets the first Thursday of every month.

She was also responsible for ordering all adult fiction, making her responsible for almost all of the current collection. She often calls library patrons to let them know about new books they might like.

Following retirement, Freeman is getting married and traveling to Tucson and hopefully Shanghai.
