November has brought high drama to Schoolcraft and Vicksburg’s athletic teams. In particular, to the girls’ volleyball team from Schoolcraft. It was exciting to witness a group of young ladies play their hearts out and go all the way to the state finals, only to lose in a hard fought contest. They were heartbroken but managed to stand tall for pictures and the presentation of medals. When they got to the locker room and released the tension of the day, the tears were flowing uncontrollably in some cases. They are a great group of athletes who took their team to the highest pinnacle of success. Congratulations to the Lady Eagles who put their heart and soul into the sport and did Schoolcraft proud.

Schoolcraft’s football team also distinguished itself in the Class C playoffs, going as far as the regional finals before falling to Watervliet. This is a young team with lots of promise for the 2015 season according to Coach Haas.

Vicksburg’s cross country runners Gabbie Perrin and Layna Steele both qualified for the state finals coming in 17th and 26th respectively.

Vicksburg girls’ volleyball team had a great season, winning the conference title, and going deep into the tournament, only to be beaten by Buchanan in the regional semi-final.

The Bulldog football team won their first-ever district playoff game and then fell to Edwardsburg, which moved on to lose by two points to Grand Rapids South Christian in the state semi-finals.

Matt Ring from Schoolcraft also ran and placed 56th in the state cross country finals for division three contestants. He was 6th in academic all-state as well.

Congratulations to this next generation of young people who will carry the mantle of these villages and our country with great expectations through the coming years.
