Greenstone Builds in Schoolcraft

A new building going up next door to the Greenstone Farm Credit Service office on West Lyon Street in Schoolcraft will replace the service’s current 1974 building. It will continue to serve farm families in St. Joe, Cass and Kalamazoo Counties, according to Tim McTigue, regional vice president for the company who oversees offices in Schoolcraft, Berrien Springs and Allegan.

The staff expects to occupy the new building sometime in the summer. The existing building will be demolished, McTigue said. “We are bursting out of the seams to accommodate the staff we have, plus the building itself is worn out. Greenstone is having a lot of success in this area and Schoolcraft village is right in the middle of our market.”

Greenstone is a credit union in certain ways as it is owned by its shareholders, McTigue pointed out. The company is headquartered in East Lansing and provides accounting services for its customers, tax preparation, crop insurance, mortgages, operating lines of credit for equipment, and rural home mortgages.
