Also at the school board meeting, Nathaniel Chiu was honored for being selected to play trombone in the Michigan All-State Band and Orchestra. He was also selected when he was in the 8th grade, according to Vicksburg Band Director Ben Rosier.
Sean Garrett, trombone player in the Vicksburg High School Band, was selected to the Michigan All-State Band for the second time. Garrett was awarded the principal chair in the orchestra, making him the top player in the state, according to Ben Rosier.
Nancy Herson, center, is congratulated by her Principal Ruth Hooks and Skip Knowles, president of the school board for her dedication and honored service. She received the “Unsung Hero Award” from the school system for her 23 years at Indian Lake School. She has worked as an office para, served as a science lab tech, summer school attendance secretary, and a volunteer to coordinate Indian Lake’s Back Pack program.
