Vicksburg School Board Approves 2.5 Million in Construction Bids

By Sue Moore

More of the proceeds from a $15.5 million bond issue approved last year by Vicksburg School district voters will be put to work starting this summer.

The Board of Education approved 14 bids for roofing, parking lot repairs and mechanical upgrades in all six school buildings and the bus garage. Work will start as early as June 9. It will be completed Aug. 15 if weather cooperates.

The bids followed a lot of activity in the office of Asst. Supt. Steve Goss, working with Mike Frederick, the school’s construction manager from Frederick Construction in Vicksburg.

They presented the 14 bid packages from vendors to the school. The bidding process was as transparent as possible, according to Goss. There were 28 actual bids received with all but one going to the lowest bidder. A good share of the work will be on fixing parking lot surfaces and upgrading the lighting, Frederick told the board.
