The Schoolcraft Library’s summer reading students were treated to a visit from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff as part of their “community heroes” day. The theme was “Every Hero Has a Story,” so the library staff arranged to highlight real heroes who help in everyday lives, according to Faye VanRavenswaay, head librarian.

Sheriff Richard Fuller and Pat Wright, emergency management director in Kalamazoo County came to Burch Park with their emergency vehicles, along with the Mobile Command Center. “They brought helpers to talk to the kids about what they do and how their vehicles work. The kids were able to tour the vehicles and gathered other fun swag that these terrific guys gave out. It was a lot of fun, the kids had interesting observations to share and they got to meet some real life heroes,” she said.
