State Softball Champions

girls sb champsThe nine and ten year old girls softball team achieved something no other team in Vicksburg’s Little League history has ever done. They won the state championship in their age group, in the title game, defeating St. Clair, last year’s champs. They have been feted with a firetruck parade through town in a big homecoming celebration. They followed that up with being presented to a crowd of over 1,000 at VHS’s varsity football game the end of August. The team was coached by Steve Peters whose daughter, Maya, pitched a two-hit shutout to claim the crown. The game was called at the end of the fourth inning due to the Mercy Rule, with Vicksburg ahead 14-0. Players include Hope Wright, Karyna Lewis, Sophie Evans, Alyvia Bailey, Torie Barga, Audrey Schau, Maddi Diekman, Payton Smith, Maya Peters, Kayla Mottl, Delaney Thomas and Tristen Abnet. Many players were also on a travel team that won two state titles this year.
