Vicksburg Hits Windy City

chicago bus tripJenni Myers describes an upcoming fundraiser for the Vicksburg Community Schools Foundation (VCSF) as having the most fun possible for herself and several of her teaching colleagues at Sunset School. This will be their fifth year of boarding a really comfortable bus–not a school bus–to spend a Saturday shopping in Chicago on the Magnificent Mile for a full day.

This year the bus trip is planned for Saturday, November 14, leaving Sunset School at 7 a.m. and arriving back about 10:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the VCSF as a fundraiser. It’s all for a good cause, said the chairperson of the ride, Kathy Forsythe, who teaches English at the high school. The cost for each participant is $50, with the profits going to Curiosity Grants for students and classrooms who come up with special projects and need funding to turn them into reality.

“The bus trip kicks off our holiday season,” Myers said. “We love it. Nothing can beat being with good friends, lots of great food, and not having to worry a bit about traffic, parking, or driving your own car to get there. We go to American Girl, Disney, the Lego store, Cheesecake Factory and are sure to stop by Ghirardelli’s too. The bus deposits us at Water Tower Place and picks us up at State Street and Superior Avenue with snacks and beverages provided on the bus.”

Reservations must be made in advance by calling Amy Manchester at the VCSF office, 321-1006. The trip isn’t just for school employees; the public is encouraged to take advantage too, Manchester said.
