Vicksburg’s volleyball team is continuing its strong play in the Wolverine Conference. It has posted an 11-19-1 overall with a 5-3 league record so far in what is a very strong conference. It’s not quite the undefeated league record the team posted last season, but it’s good enough for head coach Katrina Miller.
“The whole conference this year is very even,” Miller said. “Any victory we get is a good one.”
In the later part of the season, a key victory was a sweep of Sturgis on September 24. “It was nice to beat Sturgis again,” Miller said. Much like the start of the season, the lady Bulldogs seem to have most of their troubles in tournament play against non-conference opponents.
Still, the team is in position to make some noise late. In some of these final tournaments, Miller expects anything could happen in Conference and Districts. “I think it could go any way between a number of teams,” she said.
After the team lost a lot of key players last year, this year’s team has been more defensive minded. Even in the midst of a good season, Miller is keeping the big picture in mind. “I’ve really been trying to build the program,” she said. So far, it seems to be working.
