Isaac Smith Given the Burlsworth Award

Coach Terry Haas was proud to present two major awards to Isaac Smith, a standout player on the 2015 Schoolcraft football team. He earned honors as an academic All American in the classroom with a 4.0 grade point average. Smith was chosen for the prestigious Brandon Burlsworth award on the strength of his character, Haas told the school board at its March meeting. Burlsworth was a walk-on in college at the University of Arkansas, earning his master’s degree before his last game, then perishing in an automobile accident one year later. He was known as the “greatest walk-on” in the U.S. This award had only been given to high school students in Arkansas up until the 2015 school year. Haas nominated Smith for the award as it has now been available to other outstanding high school senior athletes in other states. Besides achieving in the classroom and on the football field, Smith is working diligently to become an Eagle Scout.
