The Vicksburg Lions Club recognized Mike Frederick of Frederick Construction as a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Mike was joined by his wife, Stephanie, in receiving the honor at the group’s Christmas party at Creekside Grille.
Based on Lions Clubs International Foundation guidelines, the Melvin Jones award is the highest form of recognition that either a Lion or non-Lion can receive for charitable work. Mike’s work is well known to the community: he has donated countless hours of time and company resources to the development of public and community spaces.
The Club’s recognition of Mike focused on his efforts toward construction and maintenance of the Community Pavilion. It is safe to say the Lions Club would not be able to host its annual summer festival, “the B&B”, under that beautiful structure without his generosity, according to Dave Reno, president of the club. In addition to his crews’ volunteer work on the pavilion, they have helped with preparations for the Harvest Festival in the Historic Village, donated fencing to enclose the animal exhibit and built the Village Garage in the Historic Village.
The company’s generosity includes a large financial donation to help with scholarships awarded by the Vicksburg Community Schools Foundation to graduating seniors each June. Frederick Construction has provided sponsorships each year for Christmas in the Village and donated to the Vicksburg Vision Campaign recently.
“This is the first time in at least seven years that the club has given the Melvin Jones Award and it is particularly notable that it was presented to a non-Lion. We felt like no one was more deserving of the recognition,” Reno said.
