Kids can learn to play golf at Angels Crossing golf course if they sign up for the Junior Bulldog Camp run by golf professional Jeff Rohrstaff. “We want this to be a fun experience. They will spend a lot of time on the driving range with unlimited range balls for the whole week,” he said. “This offer even extends to parents all week during the camp.”

The Bulldog camp is set for June 19-23 with ages 7-11 meeting from 10 a.m. to noon. The 12 to 17-year-old campers will get instruction from 1-3 p.m. “It would be great if the students have their own clubs, but if not, we can arrange for free ones while they are learning.” It costs $50 per student.

Rob Johnson, the high school golf coach, will be assisting with instruction all week. The kids will learn the fundamentals of their golf swing, putting and even the niceties of the game – learning not to walk in the path of someone lining up a putt, not talking while someone is putting or hitting their ball off the tee, or even keeping an honest score card. There will be a pizza party on Friday, June 23 for all the campers.

To enroll in the camp or gather more details, all it takes is a call to the pro shop at Angels Crossing at 269-649-2700.

Starting this summer as soon as school is out, young people will be offered the chance to play either nine or 18 holes on the local course for $5 if they are walking without a cart, Rohrstaff said. There are some restrictions on the time of day for this activity. It is being sponsored by a group called Youth on Course sponsored by the Golf Association of Michigan.

Besides the camp for kids, there is a Sunday Fun Night being planned for family golf and food together at Angels. The tee times will be after 4 p.m. each week with a cost of $15 for adults and $10 for kids under 17, including the cost of the cart. The Creekside Grille will be offering pizza and pasta for $10 after the golfing round is over.
