The Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center (VCAC) is planning “Arts in the Burg”, a day camp in Vicksburg where 8-12-year-olds can express their creative sides in four different classes each day. Children will learn skills from artists. They’ll move quickly to projects under the guidance of the artists, with collaboration between students and the various art forms. Each class will be limited to 10 children for a total of 40 children in the camp. According to Syd Bastos, VCAC director, collaboration between visual and performing arts classes is unique to the area, providing campers with an exceptionally rewarding experience.
Based on feedback from parents in the community, the Arts Center revised the camp to run one week, rather than two weeks. This shortening of class time also resulted in a reduction in the class fee from $400 to $175 per student. Foundation and private donors have made some limited scholarships available on a first-come, first-serve basis, Bastos said.
The camp will run from July 10-14, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. A special performance and exhibit will be held on Friday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. to showcase the results of the Arts Camp.
