It has been another long year for Vicksburg wrestling fans as the team dropped matches against Dowagiac 66-15 and Edwardsburg 72-6 at a quad meet after the holiday break.
“We came back off the break a little slow,” Head Coach Jeff Mohney said.
The result wasn’t totally unexpected for the team because it is five wrestlers short and because of the season other conference foes are having. “Dowagiac and Edwardsburg are the best teams in our conference,” Mohney added. Right now the goals for the team are simple. “Get better every day at this point,” he said.
There were a few bright spots at the quad match, however. Junior Griffin Day picked up a thrilling pin fall victory over his Dowagiac opponent in the 145-pound weight class. The big highlight of the year has been senior Collin Hassenger in the 112-pound weight class. He used his speed and strength to handily defeat both his Edwardsburg and Dowagiac opponents by pin fall decision in the quad meet.
Hassenger is also undefeated all year at 23-0.
