Better late than never: The Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center began planning an Arts Exploration lab, a cultural arts exploration event with local teens back in 2020. Due to the pandemic, the lab was postponed.
It’s back.
The planning of local high schoolers and board members Jake Munson and Gina Szpak will pay off on May 7. The Arts Exploration Lab provides opportunities for teens aged 13-19 to explore arts that they might not get to encounter at school or in town.
The first lab, offered in 2019, featured portrait instruction, Bob Ross paint-alongs, experimentation in jazz improvisation, and stage combat classes. This year’s lab will expand to include a dozen classes including origami, special effects make up and the art of henna tattooing.
As with all of the VCAC events, this program is run on volunteer power, so those interested in helping may contact Alisha at Alisha@vicksburgarts.com.
The Arts Lab will be held in downtown Vicksburg on Saturday, May 7 from 2-6:30 p.m.; break for dinner at 6:30, and then resume with an Open Mic night from 7-9 p.m. at the Prairie Ronde Music Residency, 107 S. Main St.
Registration is $10, which includes all art supplies, dinner, and snacks. The Open Mic night is free and open to all. Registration begins April 7 at http://www.vicksburgarts.com.
