Most of the digging to finish Vicksburg’s downtown infrastructure construction on West Washington and adjacent Mill Street is complete, said Alex Lee, the village’s director of community engagement.
The year-long project to install water, sewer and storm drain pipes began on streets northeast of the downtown area and went on to dig up much of Prairie Street and the downtown block of South Main.
The remaining work has included excavating a section of West Washington for a water line, sanitary sewer and a storm drain. The water and sewer lines are in, Lee said, and about 70% of the storm drain is finished. The work should be completed with the streets repaved during April.
Oswalt Park, getting a makeover with a firepit, should be finished by the end of May. It’s being paid for by crowd-funding donations which topped $50,000 and triggered a $50,000 match from the Economic Development Corporation through the Patronicity program.
