Oceans of reading possibilities

The Vicksburg District Library is excited to kick off our 2022 Summer Reading Program! The theme is Oceans of Possibilities and welcomes participants from toddler to 12th grade to read and win a variety of prizes. It runs from June 18-July 30. The program is intended to keep kids thinking while encouraging reading during the school free, summer months.

Participants in Oceans of Possibilities have a chance to explore a variety of reading challenges, and attend programs to earn entries in our raffle drawing. All raffle tickets must be turned in by July 30, 2022. A special summer reading prize basket will be awarded! Download the reading challenge form and raffle tickets from our website or pick them up at the library.

Infants, Toddlers & Preschoolers

Family Story Time – Mondays, 10:30-11 a.m., June 20, 27 and July 11, 18, 25. Meet for a morning of stories, songs, rhymes and crafts! For those still enjoying virtual story times; each week the story times will be posted Monday afternoon on our Facebook page.

Mugs & Hugs … On the Road! – Wednesdays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., June 22, 29 and July 6, 13, 20, 27. Join your friends at Clark Park, 310 W. Washington, Vicksburg, for a morning of fun! We will have early literacy tips, special activities, and bubbles!

Elementary

Parents please note, for the safety of your children and our staff, all children must be accompanied by an adult parent/caregiver at all events unless otherwise noted.

Book Club! Noon-12:45 p.m., June 21, 28 / July 5, 12, 19, 26. This is for students who have completed 3rd-5th grade. Adult parents/caregivers do not attend our book clubs. Bring your lunch and a book to the library! Each week, we will have a different theme to encourage kids to read a variety of books. Don’t worry if you haven’t finished your book! Mrs. W will have displays at the library for suggested reads and provide books during each book club.

MOVIES AND POPCORN! Thursdays at 2 p.m. Bring your own drinks, blankets, and pillows. We will supply the movie and popcorn.

YOGA STORY TIME – 7-7:45 p.m., June 23, 30 and July 7, 14, 21, 28. Come in comfortable clothes or pajamas. Bring a towel or a yoga mat. We will have stories and yoga to help get us ready for bed.

COLOR RUN! – July 22 at 11:30 a.m. Join us at the Centennial Clubhouse, 1530 Harper Grove, Vicksburg, for a Color Run! Wear a white shirt and be prepared to get messy. Kids can walk, skip, or run while brightly colored powder is tossed on them. Adult caregivers are welcome to run too!

Tweens & Teens

Book Club – 1-1:45 p.m., June 21, 28 and July 5, 12, 19 and 26. This is for students who have completed 6th-12th grade. Adult parent/caregivers do not attend our book clubs. Bring your lunch and a book! Each week we will have a different theme to encourage you to read a variety of books. Don’t worry if you haven’t finished your book! A treat will be provided. Mrs. W will have displays at the library for suggested reads as well as books available for check out.

Movie! Pizza! Origami! – June 22, 5-7:30 p.m. This Tweens & Teens event will be showing “Shang-Chi!” Pizza will be served and there will be tables set up to practice origami.

Bulldog Breaktime – 3-4:30 p.m., June 29 and July 6, 13, 20 and 27. Come hang out at the library. This summer we will have a Nintendo Switch gaming system! Enjoy crafts and snacks too!

Stop by the library on Saturday, June 18, 2-4 p.m. or June 20, 6-7:30 p.m. to pick up a reading challenge and a brand new book to keep! Bags will be available while supplies last and can be picked up at the library beginning June 21 (free book pickup will only be available on June 18 and 20). Participants are not required to attend the events on June 18 or June 20 in order to participate in the Reading Challenge. You can download the reading challenge form and raffle tickets to fill out at our website or pick them up at the library.

Registration is not required for our events or for the reading challenge. Happy Summer Reading!
