There is a new Blessing Box free food pantry at the Lawrence Memorial Library, 107 N. Main St. in Climax.
How it came to be is emblematic of the problem solving, networking, can-do attitude of the South County area.
South County Community Services (SCCS) has ongoing relationships with the Climax United Methodist Church (CUMC), the Climax library and its director Bill Lewis to distribute information about its services. SCCS director Drew Johnson mentioned to Bill that Generous Hands (GH) was looking to place a Blessing Box in a new area. Bill thought the library would be a great location and contacted Sheri Louis, director of Generous Hands. Sheri contacted Larry Forsyth who built the box. Bill contacted the village of Climax, whose workers generously poured a cement pad for it. GH volunteer Joe Fojtik helped install it. Bill and CUMC members helped stock it.
The community gained a new resource for those struggling to make ends meet.
The library performed another service to the community and draws attention to the historic stone facade library.
Climax UMC gained another avenue to serve its neighbors.
Generous Hands and SCCS collaborated to fulfill their mission to help area residents.
As Lewis said, “Many generous hands made this work.”
