The Vicksburg varsity boys’ soccer team finished up the season with an 11-8-1 record, and for the second year in a row managed to win its first post season game against Coldwater 2-0. The Bulldogs ended their season on 1-0 loss to St. Joseph a few days later.
It was another solid season for Vicksburg. The boys started off the regular season with six straight wins before a tie with Paw Paw. After that, the team went 4-5 the rest of the way through the season. Its final regular season game was against St. Joseph. In that contest, the Bears went up 2-0 early in the contest forcing the Bulldogs to play from behind.
Vicksburg was able to apply steady pressure, but it wasn’t until the second half that Avery Snook was finally able to drive home a goal to make it 2-1. That goal came on a mad scrum in front of the net. After that, the Bulldogs had several shot opportunities that were either stopped or missed just wide of the net. St. Joseph ultimately held on for the 2-1 win.
The soccer team has now had two solid seasons in a row with a roster that has some youth left. Vicksburg will lose graduating seniors John Rhyner, Charlie Emmerich, Bryce Town, Josiah McClelland, Colin McKee, and Daniel Ramos Escalero this season. The good news is it will return key forward Snook and defender Luke Malocha next year.
