Meet the artists at ‘Burg Days

By Alisha Siebers, Executive Director, Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center

How often do you get to watch a professional artist or craftsperson in action? If you are attending the ‘Burg Days street fairs on Wednesday evenings in downtown Vicksburg, you might be able to answer, “At least once a week!”

The Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center and the Village of Vicksburg have been partnering to offer free cultural arts experiences for families. Artists have been creating projects in the street, welcoming questions, engaging kids, and demonstrating their techniques. The Arts Center and the artists have been planning hands-on projects together so that passersby can try making something themselves.

Three amazing artists who show their love of nature in their own way will be visiting ‘Burg Days in July.

On July 12, treasured muralist and landscape painter Conrad Kaufman will be painting in our downtown. This will be your chance to paint alongside him!

On July 19, Jerry Bowman, who paints vibrant watercolors of the natural world alongside objects he finds when he travels the world, will share how he paints butterflies. Families can take home a Jerry Bowman coloring book page to do their own experiments with color.

Finally, on July 26, our beloved CoCo Sweezy will be visiting from Marshall to demonstrate the acrylic lift technique in her nature paintings. She’ll be outdoors at the tables helping folks try it for themselves.

Come out to Meet the Artists, one of the many ways the VCAC is bringing art to where the people are this summer. For a complete calendar, visit vicksburgarts.com.
