The Schoolcraft Board of Education welcomed new Athletic Director Bryan Applin, chosen to replace Jeff Clark, long-time director and teacher, who retired.
Applin is from Monroe, where he attended St. Mary Catholic Central High school. He attended Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in sports recreation management and served as the student manager for the WMU women’s basketball program. He went on to the University of Michigan as a graduate assistant coach for women’s basketball and earned a master’s degree in sports management, then went on to Davenport University where he was the school’s recruiting coordinator for women’s basketball.
Bryan next pursued a life outside of athletics as part of the recruiting and development team at Zeigler Auto Group, though he also served for three years as the girls’ basketball head coach at Sparta High School.
Bryan and his wife, Meredith, were married in 2020, She is a former WMU basketball player and now a women’s basketball coach. They live in Otsego and are expecting their first child.
“First and foremost, I want to thank Superintendent Rick Frens and the Schoolcraft school board and the search committee for the chance to join Schoolcraft as the new athletic director,” Applin said.
“Schoolcraft athletics has a rich tradition of success.
“Meredith and I are so thankful for this opportunity to become part of the Schoolcraft family.”
