Rotary 50/50 raffle winner announced
John and Laurie Brown are this year’s winners of Rotary’s 2023 50/50 Raffle. Both graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1968, along with Larry and Tina Forsyth. John bought his five-pack of 50/50 tickets from Larry in early June. “I am really glad I did it,” John said. “Vicksburg is a great community and we are proud to have grown up there.” John was the youngest of seven children raised by Ralph and Anna Brown. Laurie was the oldest of seven raised by Charlie and Carole Kendall. Both grew up steeped in community service, which strikes a chord with Rotarians who work to provide “Service Above Self.” John and Laurie will be celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary this month. Together they have raised four daughters, Erin, Lacey, Anne, and Christina. They are now enjoying retirement and will be putting their winnings into their retirement savings fund.
Adult Spelling Bee held at Vickers
The Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Vicksburg District Library sponsored an adult spelling bee on June 14 at Vickers restaurant. Deborah Harsha spearheaded the event after enjoying a similar contest in Colorado last winter. She says a good time was had by all and to watch for another Adult Spelling Bee later this summer.
