The Vicksburg Lions Club held its third annual Bowling Fun-Raiser at Pinz Kalamazoo in February. The mass exodus from Vicksburg involved nearly two-hundred bowlers and many enthusiastic spectators. After three games of bowling under the disco lights and music, dozens of prize giveaways, and a lot of laughs, there was little energy left to spare.
The club has worked closely for many years with South County Community Services and Dr. Maria Shoop-Davenport of Vicksburg Optometry to provide need-based vision services for local residents. The 2014 bowling “fun-raiser” proceeds, estimated to be over $4,000.00, will go toward providing this eye screening, lenses and, of course, frames.
The event has become the second largest annual fundraiser for the Club behind the annual Summer Festival (a/k/a “The B&B”). “We wanted to have a winter event to complement the B&B in the summer,” fundraising committee Chair Toby Hardy explained, “and it turns out that this bowling event was right up our alley.”
The club would like to thank all of the businesses – 43 total! – supporting the event through lane sponsorships and prize donations. With the support of so many in the community, the Vicksburg Lions Club hopes to keep this event rolling for many years to come.
