Sean Garrett, Vicksburg High School junior, has been selected to perform with The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus which will be touring Europe this summer.
Garrett will be representing Vicksburg when the group begins its 2014 European Concert Tour in July which will take them to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Luxembourg. During the tour, they will visit Paris, Venice, Salzburg, Stresa, Verona, Rothenburg, Grindelwald, and La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Being selected for The Sound of America is a distinguished honor for all participants since all applicants are carefully screened and chosen only after a rigorous character and musical evaluation.
All student performers will meet on the campus of Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, on July 4. After four days of intensive rehearsal and orientation, the group will depart for Frankfurt, Germany. During their 23-day concert tour, they are scheduled to present nine performances in some of Europe’s finest concert halls and major cathedrals.
Garrett has served as the trombone section leader with the Vicksburg High School Marching Band, and has also participated with the Michigan All-State Honors Band, WMU Spring Conference Honor Band, and the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Honors Band. He has been a drummer in the Rotary Club’s Showboat for several years, where his dad, Chris, conducts and his mother, Dawn, plays clarinet.
