Schoolcraft Soccer

by | Jul 2014 | Schoolcraft, Sports

Soccer is all the rage with the World Cup being in the headlines for a month. Locally, soccer in Schoolcraft has taken a strong hold with nearly 100 young people turning out for soccer camp. They are receiving instruction from the high school club soccer coaches. 2014/15 will be the first year that soccer will be offered in Schoolcraft Schools. It will begin as a club sport and if successful and the school board approves, become a varsity sport in the future. A league for middle school students as a club sport is also being sought, according to Jill Strake, one of the organizers. Lori Freer, has spearheaded the effort to bring soccer to Schoolcraft. It would be a fall sport for boys and spring sport for girls, she said. Photos by Nathan Czochara.
