Retired Custodian Was Always on Watch at the Vicksburg Middle School for Safety

by | Sep 2014 | Schools, Vicksburg

vix ms road 3Paul Jones was honored by the Vicksburg school administration and the school board for his years as a janitor at the Middle School by cutting the ribbon to open the new driveway. Superintendent Charlie Glaes praised Jones for his diligence in watching out for children as they exited the buses or cars, in rain or shine. “This [road building] is a small project that will
have a huge impact in safety and convenience for parents and bus drivers,” Glaes said while lauding just about everybody who was involved in the construction process.

The rerouting of the driveway off of E. Prairie Street was authorized by voters when they approved the 15.5 million dollar bond issue in May. It had been on the drawing board for years, Glaes explained. It took a major commitment by staff members like Jones to watch out for kids scampering and weaving in and out of the vehicles to keep children safe in all kinds of weather and traffic congestion.
