Vicksburg – May

5/ 1 – Fri. Vicksburg Ladies Library annual meeting, 1 p.m. at the library, Jon & Bev Hoffman speaking on the Trip of a Lifetime – Israel.

5/2 – Sat. Garage Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Scotts United Methodist Church, 9458 Walling St., behind the Scotts community center. Contact 649-0659.

5/2 – Sat. fundraiser for Lakeland Creative Beginnings, preschool program, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lakeland Reformed Church. 40 craft booths, raffle, bake sale, and food table. Contact Jennifer Lamb-Root, 998-3902.

5/9 – Sat. Hearty Hustle, Vicksburg High School, 9 a.m.

5/9 – Sat. Bub’s 73 Motorcycle gathering and tour, 12 a.m. begins in downtown Vicksburg.

5/16 – Sat. Kline’s Resort Open House, 9 – 1 p.m. off of Silver Street. Public is invided.

5/18 – Mon. The Vicksburg Victorian Garden Club will be visiting Hidden Savanna Nursery on May 18. Meet at the Historic Village Depot at 5:30 to car pool since there is limited parking.  The club will be learning about native Michigan plants and have an opportunity to purchase plants. 5/19 – Tues., Vicksburg Historical Society presents Steve Rossio, on the Final Days of the Civil War, 7 p.m. Community Center.

5/22 – Fri. Opening Day of Vicksburg Farmers’ Market at the Community Pavilion, 2:30 to 6:30.

5/23 – Sat. Village of Vicksburg Trash pick-up, 8 a.m. to noon.

5/25 – Mon. Memorial Day Parade, downtown Vicksburg, 10 a.m. then on to Fulton at noon.

5/30 – Sat. Victorian Garden Club plant sale, 9 a.m. at the Depot Museum on N. Richardson St.

5/31 – Sun., High School graduation.

6/27 – Sat. Kline’s Resort 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Recurring events

Certified Veterans Service Officer, Robert Barton, helping with navigating the VA healthcare system at SCCS every Thursday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Contact 649-2901 for further information.

Boy Scouts newspaper drop off on Richardson Street, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month.

Vicksburg Village Council meets the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Vicksburg District Library.

Vicksburg School Board meets the second Monday of the month, usually at the administration building at 7 p.m.

5/18 – Mon. from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m., Kalamazoo County Advocates for Senior Issues will be hosting a program on “The Importance of Transit Millages”. It will be held at Senior Services Coover Center, 918 Jasper Street, Kalamazoo. For information call 373-5147.

5/21 through June 25 Diabetes Path: classes on six weeks to better health, workshop offered by MI Offices of Services to the Aging. 1-3:30 p.m., Vicksburg District Library. Adults with diabetes, family members, friends and caregivers can benefit from the classes. Call SCCS 649-2901 to register in advance.

5/23 – Sat. Pancake breakfast sponsored by the Portage-Brady Masonic Lodge at 4371 W. U Ave., Schoolcraft, from 7-11 a.m.  All you can eat for $5, kids under 5 and under $3. It is to benefit the Lodge’s Scholarship fund.

5/5 – Tues. Schoolcraft Ladies Library annual meeting at the library building, 10 a.m.

5/6 – Schoolcraft Historical Society meets at 7:30 Wednesday, May 6, at the museum.  This month is a sharing of important, interesting people in our family or acquaintance or sighting!  Should be fun!

5/12 – Tues. Schoolcraft Ladies Library tea, honoring senior girls graduating, 1 p.m.

5/15 & 16 – Fri. & Saturday, Garage Sale, Sugar Island Estates, off Shaver Road, 9 – 5 p.m.

5/31 – Sunday, high school graduation.

Recurring events

Regular meetings of the Village Council on the first and third Monday of the month in the council chambers at 7 p.m.

Regular meeting of the Schoolcraft School Board on the second Monday at 7 p.m. usually at the high school.

Schoolcraft PTO meets on the second Tuesday of the month at the elementary library, 6:30.

Schoolcraft Ladies Library meets regularly on the first and third Tuesday of the month, usually at the LLA building.

Schoolcraft Historical Society meets regularly on the first Wednesday of the month at the Museum at 7 p.m.
