Sarah Wisser, Schoolcraft volleyball star, signed a letter of intent in April, to play for Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, with both an athletic and academic scholarship. It’s a small Catholic school competing in the NAIA, which Wisser says suits her just fine.
As a setter, Wisser was the heart of the 2014 team which went all the way to the state finals, only to lose to Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central. She has played travel ball since coming to Schoolcraft in the eighth grade, which she feels helped her to develop her skills. “We would have practice, go to school, do homework, than do it all over again each day and on weekends play in tournaments, stay in hotels where I might get a chance to do my homework.”
Fortunately, Wisser was able to master the homework as she will graduate with a 3.92, while also competing in basketball each year and track this spring for the first time. She plans to become a nurse and get a masters degree to become a nurse anesthetist, “I like science and math, plus I have three aunts who are nurses and one is a nurse anesthetist, whom I admire, so it seemed like a natural choice.”
While in Schoolcraft High School, she participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Common Bond, and was on the Student Council all four years. Her parents are Ron and Anita Wisser, who live in Prairie Ronde Township.
