The arrival of August means it’s not too early to think about back to school routines, visiting friends and homework, said Sheri Louis, executive director of Generous Hands, Inc. She has prepared for months to secure donations for the back to school bonanza event held each year. Income-qualifying children and their families looking for free back-to-school supplies, lunch, snacks and free haircuts may attend the annual Backpack Bonanza to be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lakeland Reformed Church in Vicksburg. Parents and guardians must pre-register their child with Generous Hands by calling Louis at 269-370-7965, In addition, an adult must accompany all children during the event.

“Generous Hands truly appreciates the support of the community. This event could not happen without the many donations and all of the caring volunteers,” Louis said. More than 140 children and their families from the Vicksburg, Schoolcraft and Climax-Scotts school districts attended last year, recognizing the importance of this community event. Again this year there will be a variety of backpacks stuffed with school supplies, coupons, free haircuts and other fun activities. Lunch will be served for free by the BUDS73 Foundation.

Another opportunity to support Generous Hands later this fall is the Annual Fall Extravaganza. That event will again be held at Lakeland Reformed Church, 10442 S Sprinkle Rd in Vicksburg on Thursday, Oct. 15, with doors open at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.generoushands.org or contact Sheri Louis.
