SCCS Dance Across the Decades

By Sue Moore

For the last four years, fans of the work that South County Community Services provides for the Vicksburg and Schoolcraft area, have come together to dance the night away in support of this endeavor. The fundraiser, called Dance Across the Decades, will take on April 22 from 7 – 10 p.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic church on East W Avenue, Vicksburg.

Besides being lots of fun and being able to sample some of Robin Maple’s delicious food offerings, the event is a big fundraiser. The money raised will go toward services such as the SCCS food pantry, help with transportation, and financial assistance, according to Danna Downing, executive director.

This year the event celebrates the Year of the Rooster with delicious Asian fare. There will be another unique auction experience, developed by dedicated SCCS volunteers with strong community support. This year’s auction will include a combination of silent auction and bidding activities facilitated by a volunteer auctioneer who has a soft spot for nonprofits. The festivities will be led by DJ Jimmy Lawless of Debiak Entertainment.

Tickets purchased before April 15 are $65 per couple, $35 for an individual. It goes up $10 at the door per couple and $5 per individual. Thanks to the Shaver Road Meijer food sponsor and the efforts of the volunteers, seventy-five percent of all proceeds go to support SCCS services and can be claimed as tax-deductible donations.
