Schoolcraft Volleyball Ranks Among Class C Top Ten

By Sue Moore

Schoolcraft’s volleyball team welcomed back nine players from last year’s varsity squad, including four starters with quality playing time under their belts. With a 17-7-2 record, the Eagles find themselves ranked in the top 10 in Class C again this season.

They are starting conference play off 3-0 with wins over Saugatuck, Kalamazoo Christian and Hackett. The Eagles players accredit these wins to their tough weekend tournament schedule and maintaining a competitive training environment at practice.

“It’s unique to have so many players return with varsity playing time experience. The team dynamic is strong and everyone really pushed each other during training,” said coach Erin Onken.

“All twelve girls show up every day to improve individually. They know their role and see the importance of striving for progress which in turn puts competitive pressure on their teammates for playing time.”

The team is looking forward to a fun second half of their season as they get into the bulk of their conference opponents.
