Vicksburg Golf Fielding Mostly New Team

By Travis Smola

The Vicksburg varsity boys’ golf team had difficulty finding time to practice with winter hanging on longer than usual in Western Michigan.

This year’s team is loaded with freshman and sophomores who are still learning. Head coach Rob Johnson hopes to get many of them as much playing time as possible. He noted it was difficult to prepare for this season with all the snow. The team got some practice in at the Dome Sports Center in Schoolcraft, but Johnson noted there is only so much you can do in that environment.

Two players to keep an eye on this season will be seniors Cameron Haase and Cody Vanderhorst, who handled the tough conditions at home fairly well in the team’s League Jamboree at the beginning of the month. Cold and wind made for the tough course conditions many boys struggled with.
