Arts in the Burg Arts Camp

The Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center still has openings for the second session of Arts in the Burg, a unique summer day camp. This camp runs from July 9-13 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Vicksburg Community Center (VCAC) with four classes each day. Children are immersed in the arts with four especially gifted instructors in painting, found object sculpture, book arts/printmaking and language arts. The theme is “Art through Time.”

The painting class will be exploring various techniques that have been used throughout time with the campers as they create various artworks. In the found objects class, students will create works related to time travel. Book arts and printing will be working on screen printing as well as other book arts projects. The language arts class will immerse children in the German language and children will create poetry and skits in German. German words will be used in the other three classes as well. The week-long camp will end with an exhibit and performance by the campers at the Vicksburg United Methodist Church on Friday, July 13 at 6:30 pm.

Syd Bastos, VCAC director, explained the uniqueness of the Arts in the Burg camp. “The instructors and class helpers have worked together to develop a supportive atmosphere, encouraging the children to connect with their own internal creativity and inspiring confidence in their ability to express themselves through the magic of art!”

There are still spots available for the second session. The cost of the camp is $185. Limited partial scholarships may be available. You can register your child for the camp at the VCAC at 101 E. Prairie or online at http://www.vicksburgarts.com.
