Party in the Park will again take place for pre-school children in the Vicksburg Historic Village on Wednesday, September 19 from 10 -11 a.m. It is sponsored by the Vicksburg District Library, Kalamazoo Public Library, Child Care Resources and Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency.
Kalamazoo County preschoolers, their parents, teachers, and child care providers are invited to Vicksburg to hear stories read by community leaders and costumed story book characters. Each child receives healthy snacks and juice and a gift book courtesy of Kalamazoo Public Library.
Since 1998, Ready to Read has celebrated national Stand for Children Day with a special story hour to focus community attention on the importance of sharing books with young children. Last spring was the first time the group put on the Party in the Park in Vicksburg. It was well attended, according to Stephanie Willoughby, Vicksburg Youth Services librarian.
Village Manager Jim Mallery was one of the readers in the spring. He saw the awe in the young kids’ eyes for the event. He called in the village’s big trucks and the South Kalamazoo County fire trucks to make it a huge closing to kids’ reading books.
Registration is required. Call the Library at (269) 649-1648.
