Four of the previous mill managers were present for the reunion. They are, from left to right: Roger Huckendubler (with his wife Sharon on the left), Don Ulsh, Bob Millard, Dave DeYoung (with his wife Diane on the right).
Willard Lafler, on the left, went to work at the mill right after he graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1956 and was there for 40-plus years. Tim Moore, another VHS grad in 1956, on the right, went to work at the mill in 1962 after college.
Chris Moore accepts a resolution from the Michigan Legislature and the Governor for his work to revive the Mill over the last four years and his plans for the future. He was presented with the proclamation by State Senator Sean McCann, on the left.
Marylou had a really fun time telling stories about working on the paper machines, where most women feared to go.
Noni Lowe ,whose father was Pete Lowe, a long-time mill manager, was at the reunion and shared stories with 92 year-old Chet Doborowski, who was manager of the finishing room at one time under her father’s tutelage. His daughter is in the middle.
A reunion of those who worked in The Mill before it closed in 2001 was held in October by the staff of Paper City Development. Lots of memories were shared by those who took the opportunity to tour the mill and hear about the plans for renovation. A reception tent kept people warm while they ate lunch and shared stories.
