The Vicksburg Farmers’ Market will celebrate its 13th season when it opens Friday, May 20. The market will be held every Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. through September 30.
Many of its favorite vendors are returning and new vendors have been added. Local fruit and vegetables, homemade baked goods, cheese, handmade crafts, locally raised meats, fresh flowers, wine, popcorn, coffee, dog treats, soaps, bread and granola snacks are all available at the Vicksburg Farmers’ Market.
The market is held in the Community Pavilion at 300 N. Richardson St, just north of downtown Vicksburg. New this year, it will hold the Friday, July 22 market downtown on S. Main Street. More information on “Market on Main” will be available later. Returning to the market this year will be Kid’s Corner. The Vicksburg Cultural Art Center will be offering children’s art and craft activities at the Market each Friday in June and July.
Wendy Pangle is the 2022 market manager. Pangle has experience as a vegetable farmer, a market vendor and has served on the market board of trustees for two years. She and the board are working hard to meet the market mission: “To provide a community experience that promotes locally grown food and highlights artisan products”.
“Our market is for the entire community,” Pangle said. “One of our goals in 2022 is to increase participation in the six food assistance programs that the market gladly accepts. We are excited to accept coupons and cards from Generous Hands, South County Community Services, SNAP, Double Up, Senior and WIC Fresh programs. We also accept debit and credit cards for tokens to use at the market.”
Returning this year is the Farm to Table fundraising event to be held on Saturday, August 20. The Vicksburg Farmers’ Market is a 501c3 non-profit organization sustained by vendor fees and the support of generous donations from community organizations, individuals, businesses, foundation grants and the hard work of its dedicated volunteers. Current board of trustee members are Stella Shearer, Amy Manchester, Kim Klein, John Kern, Bret Green and Alysse Thomas.
Market manager Pangle reported that the market spaces are filling up quickly. Those interested in being a vendor at the market can contact her at (269) 816-2707 or via email at vicksburgmarketinfo@gmail.com. Pangle and the market board thanked the community for its strong support. “We welcome everyone to join us on opening day Friday, May 20 from 2-6 p.m.,” Pangle said. “Please follow the market on Facebook, Instagram and at our website: vicksburgfarmersmarket.com.”
