Waldo, that kid with the striped shirt, striped hat and glasses who’s spent decades trying to hide in crowds, once more is going to blend in among 25 Vicksburg businesses in some hide-and-seek fun to encourage shoppers to patronize the shops.
Seekers can join the hunt by picking up a “Find Waldo Local in Vicksburg” stamp at any of the participating stores. There’s no charge to participate during the hunt, which lasts for all of July.
The hunt is the result of teamwork between the American Booksellers Association, 310 independent book stores around the country including Vicksburg’s own Gilbert and Ivy store, and Candlewick Press.
Each time searchers spot a miniature Waldo in a shop, they’ll get their card stamped or signed. Searchers can also look for a 2024 gold medal hidden in Gilbert and Ivy.
Stamps or signatures at 20 or more businesses will entitle seekers to entry in a grand prize drawing for Waldo books and other prizes. And participants can attend the Great Waldo Celebration at 7 p.m. July 24 during the ‘Burg Days of Summer downtown.
Those wanting more information can call Gilbert and Ivy at 269-475-5747, contact it at service@gilbertandivy or look for a map of participating stores at www.indiebound.org.
