Fire authority seeks ambulance choices

by | Sep 2024 | Government

The South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority and the county’s other fire departments are asking the region’s ambulance services to bid on service to the departments. The request for proposals from several providers were due August 27, said authority Chief Tracy McMillan.
Most of the agencies in Kalamazoo County use emergency medical services from Life EMS, McMillan said. The authority had used Pride EMS until it went out of business a year ago.

McMillan said there was no dissatisfaction with the current provider. The county’s departments, participating in a Kalamazoo Valley Intergovernmental Ambulance Agreement, are interested in obtaining the best service possible. Responses “would give us choices we haven’t had.”

The authority and its member communities will review the responses along with other departments linked in the county agreement. The authority’s members villages of Vicksburg and Schoolcraft and townships of Wakeshma, Brady, Schoolcraft and Prairie Ronde.
