The model train is on the move at the Depot Museum this holiday season.

The Vicksburg Historical Society is excited to offer several activities this December to celebrate the holiday season at the Depot Museum.

Join us Saturdays, December 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., to enjoy the always loved model train layout. Our volunteers will be on hand to operate the train, chat about the layout, and even teach you to operate the controls!

As you wander around the museum, you’ll find plenty of artifacts on display including a newly curated toy exhibit, Santa’s luggage, and railroad history. And if you are looking for a Vicksburg gift, we’ve got you covered with books, mugs, and playing cards.

On December 14, we will have these extra activities to coincide with Christmas in the ‘Burg:

  • Make a beaded decoration/ornament or color a picture to take home after visiting the model train.
  • Enjoy free hot cocoa and treats with live holiday music provided by string duo The Raven Bow (Bob and Kathy Brandt).
  • Make a photo with our decorated Ford Model A outside the Depot Museum or on the back of the caboose for a holiday keepsake.

We look forward to seeing you this December!

Excerpt from Foster-Hawkins-Richardson Family Letters:

Bourbon Dec. 26th/75

Dear Sister & Children,

I wish you all a Merry Christmas. Perhaps it is rather late but better late than never. Your letter was received some days ago but I was cutting off pigs tails & made a mustake & cut off the end of might right fore finger so that I could not use a pen. We are all well as usual for which we feel thankful. Clara & Nellie got each of them a doll & candy & Raisons for Christmas…

I like to forgot my Christmas present. It consisted of Eight Burkshire pigs present by our old sow…
but it is getting late and I must close. Write soon

From your Brother & Uncle,
H.A. Foster
