Vicksburg Arts, formerly Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center, has announced the appointment of Eltine DeYoung as its new executive director.
Outgoing director Syd Bastos said DeYoung “will manage operations, drive business development, and foster a culture of excellence.
“With a robust background in non-profit leadership spanning over 25 years, Eltine brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Vicksburg Arts,” said Bastos. “Her extensive background in strategy development and implementation, fund development, educational development, exhibition design, and governance positions her as an invaluable asset to the organization.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Eltine to our team,” said Gina Szpak, board president of Vicksburg Arts. “Her visionary approach, strategic mindset, and passion for excellence will be instrumental in developing impactful and financially sustainable programs.”
DeYoung holds a master’s degree in museum studies from the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, Reinwardt Academy, The Netherlands.
She expressed enthusiasm about joining Vicksburg Arts. “The creative arts enrich our lives, as participants and as audiences, adding to our quality of life. Vicksburg Arts plays an important role in bringing enjoyment through the arts to Vicksburg and beyond. I am honored to be involved in showcasing creative works, celebrating local creatives, and providing access to creative opportunities for all people in our community.”
The arts center, founded in 2015, has offered a continuous range of activities for a widening community: They have included the Tournament of Writers competition, Art of Nature summer day camps, an Arts Exploration Lab and a Destination Series highlighting cultural and artistic activities of people and regions around the world. It’s hosted gallery exhibitions and musical events. In the past year, it has also developed and expanded art programming and outreach for area senior citizens.
