Members and those interested in joining the Vicksburg Historical Society are invited to attend our annual member meeting on Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Vicksburg District Library. The annual meeting will feature light refreshments and updates from the Society’s Board of Trustees.

The Leland and Doris Eldred Weick Award for Historic Preservation will be presented to Lisa Kreutz and Margaret Musselman. Margaret, author of “Lives and Lore of Indian Lake”, wrote the manuscript over 30 years ago. It documents the history of the Native American communities around Indian Lake and development of its shores through the stories of the families that made their home there.

A few years ago, Lisa Kreutz took on the task of completing the book by filling in missing information, digitizing the manuscript, and finding all the images Margaret had planned for the book. “Lives and Lore of Indian Lake” is in the final stages of editing, with plans to publish it in late 2025.

This year, our Museum Administrator and Curator (MAC), Leah Milowe, will present “A Visual Journey Through Vicksburg History”.  Leah will share images of our community, offering insights into Vicksburg’s history. Audience participation will be encouraged.

In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to win prizes during a fun round of Vicksburg trivia.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Vicksburg Historical Society can join at the meeting on April 26 at the Vicksburg District Library, or any time at vicksburghistory.org/membership. Memberships help support the Society’s mission to preserve and share the history of the Vicksburg area.
