Tory Hollister has moved her Oopsy Daisy Shop to 117 East Prairie Street, just around the corner from her old location.
Hollister says, “I moved to the original space in a partnership between two businesses. When my partner moved on, I expanded my part of the business to fill the whole space. When it became time to renew the lease, I had to review all the things involved in the business including the things involved with a very active family.”
Hollister decided to focus on the fresh flowers part of the business and do so in a more manageable space. The result: I walked in expecting to see things missing, and that was not the case. The fresh-cut flowers are the focal point, but the fun and interesting gift items, house plants and soaps are still there. The build your own bath salt bar is well stocked for both health and relaxation.
The shop feels like an exclusive uptown boutique.
A new Vicksburg shopping experience is Mama Jo’s Trading Co. at 109 South Kalamazoo Street in Vicksburg, located between the Subway and the Vicksburg laundromat. I was recently given a tour by owners Paige and Shelly Schebeck and Julie Prange. These three have an ability to fill a store with interesting things and have fun doing it. Customers enter the store by walking behind the checkout counter which ensures a warm greeting and a panoramic view of all the things you’re about to encounter.
The entire store has been transferred from a blank slate to a warm and inviting space. Mama Jo’s is named in honor of Julie and Shelly’s mom, and Paige’s grandmother, Jo, who had a fondness for collecting and reusing things. The business started as a booth in Vintage Inspired in Mattawan but has grown to need its own space, and according to Shelly, something more: “Its own vision, and the space in Vicksburg provides for that.” Paige is quick to mention how welcome the owners have been made to feel, “and how well the businesses in Vicksburg work together.” Julie describes the collection as “an eclectic mix of things old and new.”
The owners describe their store as highlighting new and found home decor, handmade candles and home goods, locally made items, food items, and houseplants. A visit to this store is pure fun. The inventory is great and priced for all budgets.
