Betty G. Mason, age 96, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on September 15, 2025. Betty was born on September 1, 1929, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Teddy and Lula (Centlivre) Henegar. She shared a wonderful childhood on the family farm, near Colony, KS, with her 3 sisters: Linda, Bonnie, and Janice.
Betty retired from both Bronson Methodist Hospital and Healthcare Midwest Surgery. Earlier in life, she worked in retail sales for JCPenney, and after retirement, she worked for the American Cancer Society. Throughout her career, Betty was dedicated to helping others.
Her love of gardening and the outdoors began in childhood on her parents’ farm and continued throughout her life. She also found great joy in her family, traveling, and playing golf. In later years, she enjoyed cards, Bingo, and the company of many dear friends and neighbors at her senior apartment community.
Betty was a proud member of Portage United Church of Christ, the Kalamazoo Garden Club, the Kalamazoo Garden Council, and the Kalamazoo Lioness Club. She also gave generously of her time to Ministry with Community and served as a mentor with Kalamazoo Senior Services.
Betty married John McIntyre Jr. on December 10, 1950, with whom she had three children: Thomas, Timothy, and Kerry. On September 19, 1981, she married G. Budd Mason. With Budd, she joyfully welcomed his daughters, Anne and Martie, into her heart, and together they built a blended family. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother to the two generations that followed. Betty and Budd loved traveling, taking cruises and road trips, enjoying game nights with friends, and gathering with their dinner group.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Donnie Henegar, Janice Henegar, and Bonnie (Henegar) Vincent; her son Thomas McIntyre; and her husbands, John and Budd.
Betty is survived by her beloved sister; Linda Sweany, brother-in-law Gene Vincent, children; Tim [Becky] McIntyre, Kerry [Tom] Mohney, Anne [Lewis] Kamiri, and Martie [Don] Martin, grandchildren; Melissa McIntyre, Kyle [Tynan] Mohney, Krista Johnson, Nate McIntyre, Andrew [Carissa] McIntyre, Ross [Katie] Martin, Carl [Anna] Martin, Karen [Jon] Buser, and Janet [Geoff] Kamiri-Ong, 13 great-grandchildren; Michael, Mya, Patrick, Ryan, Liam, Max, Eva, Mia, Lacy, Cora, Maeve, Liam, and August, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Betty will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the way she made everyone feel at ease. She lived her life with compassion and a smile, sharing her infectious joy with all who knew her.
