Over 2.5 million viewers met Kalamazoo’s best-selling author Bonnie Jo Campbell on the Today Show in January 2024. Up to 75 more will have that opportunity from 6 to 8 p.m. October 16 at the Prairie Ronde Artist Gallery, 101 Prairie Street in Vicksburg.
Bonnie Jo Campbell’s novel “The Waters” was the January selection for the Today Show’s “Read with Jenna” Book Club. It was also featured in the Oprah Daily list of “Best Books of 2024” and “Best Books of Spring” and received high praise from Booklist, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, and others. The Waters was also recently honored with a Michigan Notable Book Award. Other novels include “Once Upon a River”, a national bestseller which was adapted into a full-length feature film in 2020.
Campbell will speak as part of the Prairie Ronde Artist Residency’s Come As You Art™ salon series. The Not-So Secret Life of Bonnie Jo Campbell is an audience-engaged event that will explore the role of community activism in her life and work. Campbell’s unique voice has been described as “unflinching.” She’s wielded it on women’s issues, environmental concerns, and more in her writing and on social media. As she wrote on BJC’s What’s a Writer to Do? | Bonnie Jo Campbell | Substack, “If writers could shake things off, they probably wouldn’t write. The writer’s business is to take things to heart, to explore all possibilities.”
Prairie Ronde’s Come As You Art™ salon series “showcases the craft of one of us while inspiring the creativity in all of us,” said Creative Director John Kern.
Space is limited for this free, open to the public event sponsored by the Prairie Ronde Artist Residence and Vicksburg Arts.
