The Schoolcraft Eagles headed to post season after finishing the regular season with a 7-2 record, beating Centreville, Constantine, Galesburg-Augusta, Coloma, Lawton, Saugatuck and Delton Kellogg. The team’s two losses came to Division 4 powerhouse Hudsonville Unity Christian and Division 5 Kalamazoo United. Schoolcraft went 5-0 in conference play, winning the SAC Valley Division by beating Galesburg 53-28, Coloma 26-6, Lawton 18-14, Saugatuck 33-13 and Delton 60-0.
The last regular conference game was at home on October 24 against Kalamazoo United. The Titans were first to score but missed the extra point, taking a 6-0 lead into the second quarter. The Eagles hit paydirt with a 45-yard pass from Jack DeVries to Brayden Boyes who went for 45 yards, bringing the game to 6-6 with a missed extra point.
The second half saw United hit a long pass for a Titan touchdown and a good kick for the extra point taking the lead again 13-6. They then opened a bigger lead when they scored again from 6 yards out, going up 19-6. The Eagles were able to close the gap when Cooper Howard took the ball in from the United 5-yard line. The Eagles then secured a 2-point conversion. In the 4th quarter, Schoolcraft’s Evan Feller broke through the defense from 1 yard out to put the Eagles up 20-19 with 5 minutes left on the clock. That ended up being too much time. The visiting Titans completed a 34-yard pass to add 6 points to the visitors’ side, and along with a failed extra point, the Titans took the lead and the win with a score of 25-20.
On Sunday the 26th, team members gathered in the team room nicknamed “the Pit” to watch the show called “Selection Sunday” where the MHSAA announces the playoff brackets. The Eagles learned they would be playing at home on Halloween night against Galesburg-Augusta. The Rams come in with a 4-5 record. The team is in the playoffs for the first time since 2017 and hoped to knock off the Eagles to continue their run in the post season. The Eagles hope to continue their post season to take on the winner of the Constantine-Lawton game on the opposing line of the bracket. Last season the Eagles won the District and Regional championships and made it to the state semi-final game, where their season came to an end at the hands of Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central.
