Whatever happened to the grandmas we knew?
They were jolly and plump and huggable, too,
She worked very hard and kept busy all day
There was so much to do, and no time for play.
She cooked good, hearty meals
Such as hash browns in the spider,
And there was nothing better
Than her fried cakes with apple cider.
I liked to brush my grandma’s hair
It was long, white, and pinned in a bun,
Today, grandmas are champagne blondes
Serving balls on the tennis court, having fun.
Or you may see her on a golf course, swinging a club,
Offering a choice word – if she happens to flub.
She pedals on her bike, sleek and fast
In shorts and t-shirt, she goes breezing past.
You may see her jogging, trying for a 12-minute mile
Or picking up spares at the bowling alley once in a while,
She may run a computer or type like a whiz,
And when you address her, the title is “Ms.”
There’s one thing I’ll agree on
Woman’s place is in the house,
And … the Senate and the Oval Office,
“First Gentleman” as her spouse.
Grandmas still love their families
But in a far, different way
The sky is the limit
What she can accomplish today!
