The 2013/2014 regular season ended with both the boys and girls bowling teams finishing the conference in eighth place.
The Regionals this year were held at Fairlanes in Grandville where the boys team finished eighth out of the 16 teams for Division 4-Region 6. The girls finished in fifth place, the highest finish ever for a Schoolcraft girls team. They were only 133 pins away from securing a qualifying team position for the State Championships.
In individual achievements, Blake Bales led the boys team with a high game for the season of a 222 and a high average of 176. He was followed closely by Alex Segerdahl with a 217 game and a 170 average.
On the girls team, Ally West led the team with a team high average of 144. Erika Sackrider led the team with a high game score of 196 at Regionals. That game helped her finish in 13th place, just outside of the top 10 qualifying positions that get to go on to the State competition.
The girls team did have an individual State qualifier, Ally West, the first in Schoolcraft history for the girls team. Ally claimed a ninth place finish out of 75 girls at Regionals.
The top 60 high school bowlers in the area, both boys and girls, then competed at the State competition, held in Battle Creek. The first round advanced the top 16 boys and top 16 girls.
After struggling to get a handle on the oil pattern, Ally fell short of the first qualifying round. Although she left disappointed, she told her coaches she was happy to have made it as far as she did.
The coaches will be saying goodbye to three seniors to this year – Ally West, Nicole Krull and Carolyn Zinsmaster. The rest of the girls team consisted of sophomore, Erika Sackrider and freshmen, Megan West, Gurjot Nanhra and Meagan Sargent.
The boys team consisted of juniors Troy Schnieder and Tanner Menz; sophomores, Alex Segerdahl and Jon Manning; and freshmen, Roberto Gamez and Blake Bales. Head Coach Mark Blentlinger thanks all of the parents for their support in getting the bowlers to practices and matches all season.
Coach Blentlinger and his assistant coaches Bob Bales, Eric West and Logan Blentlinger are looking forward to next year.
